Course description

Do you know what Tasawuf is? It is an Arabic term used for understanding the process of spiritual and ethical models. The literal meaning says how to become a Sufi. So, it has a deep connection with Sufism. The word Sufi holds a different meaning. The primary meaning derives from the word Suf which means wool. It is the traditional garment of saints and prophets on the east side. It got its connection with the term Safa as well. Safa relates to purity.
Moreover, it also goes with the term Safwa, which means the selected ones. Therefore, it lays great emphasis on the psychological aspect of the heart’s purification. Moreover, it also highlights the role of choosing the saint by the grace of the divine. Lastly, it has links with suffa as well. Suffa means bench and refers to the poor people present at the times of our Holy Prophet (PBUH). They are famous as People of the Bench. It signifies the community that shared poverty. All of the derivations led to the ideal qualities to form the main concept of tasawuf. You will find that tasawuf did not emerge in the era of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). Still, this spiritual concept arose parallel to other Islamic disciples like Quranic exegesis and Islamic law. However, the Sufi experts maintain the thought of Sufism’s heart lies in the Prophet Muhammad's qualities and traits and his relationship with his followers.
